The European Commission’s “Roadmap for moving to competitive low carbon economy in 2050” communication of March 2011 outlined a path to achieve a level of CO2 reduction of 80% in 2050 compared to 1990, while guaranteeing at the same time energy security and the competitiveness of the EU economy.
